About

About Colorr

A comprehensive named color reference for web developers and designers.

What is Colorr?

Colorr is a browser-based color reference that brings together named color systems used in web and UI development — from the CSS specification to design system palettes like Open Color. Every color has a dedicated page with values in every format, tints and shades, color harmonies, and WCAG contrast ratios. No login, no install required.

The goal is to be the most complete named color resource on the web — a place where you can look up any named color from any major collection, compare values across formats, and get CSS-ready output immediately.

Color collections

  • CSS Named Colors — 147 color keywords built into every browser, from the CSS specification
  • Open Color — 130 shades across 13 palettes, MIT-licensed, designed for UI work

More collections are on the way — Tailwind CSS, Material Design, and others.

Features

  • Browse and search across all collections from the home page
  • Individual color pages with HEX, RGB, HSL, HSL (modern) and OKLCH values
  • CSS variable names for design system colors (e.g. --oc-blue-6)
  • Tints and shades — lighter and darker variants at a glance
  • Color harmonies — complementary, triadic, analogous, split-complementary, tetradic
  • WCAG contrast ratios — AA/AAA compliance for text on white and black
  • Format converter — paste any HEX, RGB, or HSL value and get all formats instantly
  • Copy any value with one click
  • Light and dark mode

Companion tool

Colorr is a companion to Fontr.info — a font preview tool covering 1,900+ typefaces from Google Fonts, Fontsource, and other open-license collections. Together they cover the two fundamental CSS decisions in any web project: color and typography.

Who made Colorr?

Colorr was built and is maintained by Mikael Andersson, a developer based in Sweden. It started as a CSS named colors reference and grew into a broader color resource as more collections were added.

Independence

Colorr is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to any browser vendor, standards body, or design system project. Color conversions are computed in-browser and are approximations — for critical color work, verify values with a dedicated color management tool.
